Yesterday I was at a BBQ at a friends house when two of the guests discussed in some detail their disdain over foreigners taking our jobs, and the question I asked was, "Are they really our jobs?".
The response I got was "Yes.".
I don't know about you but I don't claim ownership of minimum wage jobs. I couldn't care less who cleans my lavatories provided they do a good job of scrubbing my shit away.
I held my tongue on the day in question because I felt it might take the discourse at the BBQ in the wrong direction should I engage in my views with the same feverent enthusiasm as the guests in question. But that doesnt meen I didn't have anything to say, i'm just going to say it here instead!
"Are they OUR jobs?"
Well if they are then what we have is a situation where our jobs are under attack. Now you can defend those jobs all you like but the most you will achieve is minimising losses. In order to 'win' against any attack the only way to achieve victory is at some point to go on the offensive.
You cannot win a conflict by only employing the tactic of defence. Victory in all conflicts is achieved by strategically positioning yourself to fight as few defensive battles as possible so that you can go on the offensive.
Without going on the attack you cannot win.
So my suggestion to anyone who feels that immigrants are taking OUR jobs is to leave the defence of those jobs to the people who want to clean my shit for minimum wage whilst you fuck off to Eastern Europe and take the fight to them.
